Attendance and Punctuality
The Academy has high expectations for regular attendance and punctuality. These are necessary if children are to make progress. Parental support in the matter of attendance and punctuality is essential to success. Where absence is unavoidable, because of illness, or other reasonable causes, parents are required to telephone the academy on the first day of absence giving the child’s name, class, and reason for absence and anticipated duration of the absence.
Appointments for medical or dental treatment should, whenever possible, be outside normal school hours. If this is impossible the academy should be notified well in advance by telephone or written note.
Attendance monitoring will be carried out by the administration team, the form tutor and the Education Welfare officer who will telephone parents of absent pupils for whom we have not received notification of absence. The Governors are obliged by law to publish attendance and truancy figures for the school.
Our Education Welfare Officer may be requested to visit if there are attendance issues concerning your child.
The Academy has a parent support officer dedicated to working with parents, the academy and pupils to ensure the best outcomes for all.
Holidays in term time
Regulations state that leave will not be given to a child to take holiday during term time.
- Leave of absence should not be taken at all.
- Leave of absence will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. The following considerations will apply:
- Whether the parents/carers are restricted in terms of leave from their employer
- The nature of the trip
In regard to the above should it be due to employer restrictions then a signed letter from the employer should accompany the request for leave, setting out the prevailing circumstances.
