4: Thought Staff List
I am employed as a Mental Health Practitioner in Education, to support children with various spectrums of mental health problems.
Prior to nursing, my employment history has been varied, including a variety of positions including, sales manufacturing and industry. I studied at the University of Sheffield in 2000, qualifying as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
My career Nursing began in 1994, in which I have undertaken numerous positions as a healthcare professional. My nursing background includes working within the areas of older peoples, adult nursing and substance misuse. I am also an independent nurse prescriber.
I am committed to enhancing the psychological wellbeing of individuals, challenging any stigma and encouraging a culture of acceptance toward mental health problems.
I come from a mining family brought up in Barnsley and am familiar with the local area and our population within the Barnsley borough. I feel I understand the needs of this community. My interests include sport, five a side football (which I play badly), cinema, TV and theatre, exercising and occasionally enter endurance events for fun.
David Ryder is a trained therapeutic person centred counsellor and is registered with a governing body called the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
David has counselled parents covering a wide range of issues and worked with people in a supportive role for the past 14 years. He has supported people from all parts of society with a wide range of needs. This has included helping people access services for support and offering emotional support to deal with change.
In his spare time, he enjoys socialising with friends and if he had to choose his favourite food would be Thai. He likes camping and walking in the Yorkshire Dales during the summer months and tries to stay healthy by going to the gym and taking fitness classes.
