About 4: Thought

The 4: Thought Team is a multi-disciplinary mental health team working with the Barnsley CAMHS Service. The work is based in Barnsley mainstream secondary schools.

It is funded by Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group as part of Barnsley’s Future in Mind Local Transformation Plan supported by Barnsley CAMHS.

The team comprises of 3 Primary Mental Health Practitioners, 1 Parent Counsellor, 1 Family Practitioner, 1 Teacher and commissioned time from Barnsley’s Educational Psychology team. The team will work throughout the year, not just term time.

As part of the offer we are working closely with Chilypep who are delivering a series of free mental health training sessions to the mainstream secondary schools. These range from full day courses, half day courses and twilight sessions.

The focus of the team will be on promoting the resilience of the young people within the Barnsley secondary schools to prevent either the development of mental health problems or the development of more intensive mental health problems. The team are there to also support the families of the young people who access the service. While supporting the schools to become more adept at identifying and supporting mental health difficulties in young people.

Who can access this service?

All secondary aged young people who are currently receiving education from a Barnsley mainstream secondary school, who are experiencing mental health difficulties which is impacting on their emotional, social and educational abilities.

The 4: Thought Team aim

  • To provide early intervention for the young people and their families.
  • To promote resilience, emotional and behavioural wellbeing and where possible prevent difficulties arising.
  • To provide consultation and advice and training to secondary school staff.
  • To ensure multi-disciplinary working and networking with other services particularly GPs to create a more integrated approach to treatment.
  • To provide new perspectives on young people’s mental health problems. which lead to care and treatment strategies being redesigned when and where appropriate.
  • To provide a drop in service at each mainstream secondary school where young people have the opportunity to self-refer when identifying their own mental health difficulties.
  • To reduce and challenge the stigma surrounding young people’s mental health.
