Attendance

Punctuality

The school has high expectations for regular attendance and punctuality. Parental support in the matter of attendance and punctuality is essential to success.

Where absence is unavoidable, parents or carers are required to telephone the school on the first day of absence giving the child’s name, class and reason, along with the anticipated duration of absence. The Attendance Officer can be contacted on: 01226 291133.

Appointments for medical or dental treatment should, whenever possible, be outside normal school hours. If this is impossible the school should be notified well in advance by telephone or written note.

Attendance monitoring will be carried out by the administration team, the form tutor and the Education Welfare officer who will telephone parents of absent pupils for whom we have not received notification of absence. The Governors are obliged by law to publish attendance and truancy figure for the school.

Our Education Welfare Officer may be requested to visit if there are attendance issues concerning your child.

Springwell Learning Community has a parent support officer dedicated to working with parents and pupils to ensure the best outcomes for all.

 Parental Holidays During Term Time

Regulations state that leave will not be given to a child to take holidays during term time. Unnecessary absence should be avoided as it is bound to affect a child’s educational progress and attainment.

Leave of absence will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. The following considerations will apply:

  • Whether the parents/carers are restricted in terms of leave from their employer.
  • The nature of the trip.

In regard to the above, should it be due to employer restrictions then a signed letter from the employer should accompany the request for leave, setting out the prevailing circumstances.
